Simple Ideas Sell Better Than Complex Ideas

3:33 pm in Blogging, Miscellaneous Tips by Jerry Ihejirika

One of the common mistakes amateur bloggers do is to write their article or blog post using big or complex words that are difficult or confusing to understand by a mere reader. One of the characteristics of professional bloggers is that they know how to break down a complex idea into bits and pieces so that, irrespective of the levels of understanding of their blog readers, they will be able to understand what he is actually saying.

Simple ideas work best and attract more blog readers because they are the easiest to understand. The more complex a blogger makes his blog contents, the more difficult it will be for some of his readers to fully understand what he is trying to explain. Explanations piled upon explanations in order to get across a point may easily lead to confusion. The simpler and more basic he makes his posts, the better for his blog readers.

The bloggers quest for simplicity, however, should not end there, but should necessarily spill over into every other aspect of his blog. For example, when confronted with a complex question that may call for lengthy explanation or discussion, break it down into sections or individual posts and explain each separately, with perhaps a brief summary showing how they fit together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. If your blog reader still doesn’t comprehend, don’t fault him. Remember, the burden is always upon you to demonstrate the merits of your positions. Look for a better way to explain, perhaps breaking the matter down into even greater detail, but always keeping it simple. Learn to anticipate when and what type of simplicity is called for. This may vary from a blog reader to a blog reader.

Assume that you want to explain how to set up a wordpress blog to someone who knows next to nothing about setting up a blog. You are a professional blogger who knows how to set up and run a successful blog. In sharing your idea, you may want to start by first of all telling the person what a blog is, how a blog works, and who uses blogs, before moving into the setting up aspect of a blog.

In the setting up aspects, a pictorial step-by-step guide or practical approach will be the best approach to go about it. You may start with how the person will set up a wordpress blog account, to choosing a template/theme, to how to write a blog post, and then how to add pages to the blog. You may go on and on, but the basic point here is that simplicity is the best approach except maybe the person is experienced.

Finally, never assume that because a blog post is complex, with many issues and twists and turns, that it cannot be formed into simple components and discussed on that basis. On the contrary, your blog success means simply effective communication, and the more blogging you do, the more you realize that by far the best way to attain blogging success is through simplicity in all content that you post.

The Importance of High-Tech and Internet Know-How

11:35 am in Miscellaneous Tips, News, Technology, and the Web by Jerry Ihejirika

The world around us is changing rapidly at a faster rate. High-technological advances and the internet seem to be the center of attraction today driving us toward globalization. Millions of people from different corners of the world worship high-tech slick gadgets and spend much of their time on the internet. Simply put, the main reason people will look obsolete in tomorrow’s world is because they have spent years and learned nothing about the basic use of some of these high-tech gadgets and the internet.

Over the past decade, companies, universities, and organizations around the globe have invested heavily in acquiring high-tech gadgets and equipments, adding everything from desktop computers, to security tracking devices, to blu-ray DVD players, and laptop connections. Most have also taken their businesses online, no wonder why the internet business world is getting flooded daily.

In his book, Rich Dad, Poor Dad, Robert Kiyosaki said: “Land was wealth 300 years ago. So the person who owned the land owned the wealth. Then, it was factories and production, and America rose to dominance. The industrialist owned the wealth. Today, it is information. And the person who has the most timely information owns the wealth.” But if I may ask, “Where else can one get the timeliest information even from the strangest part of the world? It is on the internet, of course. The internet is a place where information flies around the world at the speed of light, and is has now become the mainstream of global information. Most people now turn to the internet first whenever they seek to find key information. From my personal opinion, students that have the privilege to get on the internet have a distinct advantage over the students who are less fortunate.

Many of today’s youth, most especially in the developing countries, have never had a course on how to use a computer, or any of today’s high-tech gadgets, let alone understand how to use the internet. But they do not know that without computer literacy and a little knowledge of the internet, they might not be prepared to face the world that awaits them – a world in which timely information is wealth.

I do not expect people to agree with me because the knowledge and use of high-technological equipments and the internet is always an emotional topic. Critics argue they might actually make our youths passive. Most of our children and youths are now using the internet to watch pornographic films. Some of our youths and adults involve in illegitimate and illegal online businesses (often called yahoo-yahoo in Nigeria). But with good orientation and stringent measures from the government, our parents, and our teachers, this act can be drastically reduced, if not eliminated. Because looking on the other side of the coin, the internet has far greater advantages and benefits in today’s ever-changing world.

There are several resources on the internet where one can get detailed and concrete information and ideas on key topics and subjects which could enhance learning. There are lot of legitimate and legal online businesses, some of which cost very little or no capital to start up. The internet is now one of the major means of reducing unemployment and youth restiveness, globally. Also, the internet is a social media. One can make lots of real and nice friends from different corners of the world just from the comfort of your home.

Technology has a place in today’s world. And, the internet has united the world. Instead of one mind, with the internet, we have billions of minds connected together, sharing ideas, solving global issues, establishing business partnerships, and communicating globally.

Today, we are facing global and technological advances as great as or even greater than those ever faced before. In our age of Facebook and Twitter, and may be soon Google Wave, this digital soft powers will soon be used by nations to foster and advance foreign interests. I rest my case, but I will love to read your comments.

How They Appeal To Your Emotions Through Wealth

2:56 pm in Miscellaneous Tips by Jerry Ihejirika

Have you ever noticed what I am about to say now: “Why is it that when you visit some websites or blogs, owned most especially by male bloggers, network marketers, affiliate marketers, or even information marketers, you will see them displaying pictures, photos, or screenshots of flashy cars, big houses, and fat dollar cheques? And sometimes you see an image of the person sitting across the beach-side and sipping an “expensive” wine! Wow, I do sometimes get an eyeful of them on some particular websites and blogs, and it makes me smile!! Can someone really tell me why all those pictures, photos, and screenshots? Well, I will tell you. They are trying to appeal to your emotions through “their” wealth – if at all those pictures were real or not. Most of them are either persuading you to purchase their product, service, idea, join their membership team, or subscribe to their newsletter. Sometimes you read things like “This business actually bought me this car,” “This is the house that this business bought me,” “I have earned over thirty million dollars in this business, take a look at some of my earnings,” “I purchased a new duplex – I love it! Here’s a photo of the outside,” “This business have made me lots of cash, so I am always having fun,” “If you love travelling around the world having fun, then join me in this business,” and on and on and on, wow! There has been a saying that men can be emotionally aroused through pictures, so these people may be trying to convince you through those pictures and screenshots that this business actually makes them much money.

I recently read something that the majority of people’s dream is to become an instant millionaire. For some it may be true; for others, perhaps not. Whichever the case, one thing is certain. Most have a strong desire for wealth and the security, fun and independence that go with it. Wealth will pay for your flashy cars, pay for your big houses, pay for your laptops, pay for internet connection, and pay for your bills. It will purchase plenty of travel and vacations. It will also provide tremendous power. Some want it solely for that purpose.

Most matters these web business owners display all those flashy photos and screenshots on their websites and blogs. It follows that wealth is a very fertile area of emotional appeal. Whenever the web business owner can demonstrate to his reader or prospects how that particular business or product can increase his wealth or preserve his existing wealth, the web business owner has adopted a sound strategy – provided, of course, that wealth is what is in his prospect’s strongest emotional appeal.

Whenever most of us see those screenshots of flashy cars, big houses, fat pay cheques, house-by-the-beach-side, and of course, sipping-a-cool-wine-by-the-beach-side photo, it adds to great value and thus easily triggers our emotional response. Most of us will even begin to have fantastic “dreams” and sign up immediately without any further research.

The widespread use of emotional rather than rational appeals in promoting products, services, and ideas online has been questioned for years. Web promotion managers have defined emotional appeals by stating that people buy or subscribe much faster on an emotional basis than on a rational basis. A common saying regarding this truism is, “The heart is six inches closer to the wallet than the head.” Critics argue that online consumers would buy more rationally if web business owners would furnish them with objective information. Web business owners reply that they sell the way consumers want to buy, not the way they (the web business owners) think they should buy.

I purposely wrote this article for people who are emotionally weak and easily deceived into “get-rich-quick” schemes. No matter how flashy the pictures and screenshots you see on those websites and blogs are, nor how attractive they may look like, do NOT forget to do further research and due diligence before putting in your money. Some of those pictures are not real, and some of those businesses might be a scam.
